Jaik McCabe-ian Delights Diablo's

Jaik Willis
With the club packed upon entry and a certain smell in the air, the people in Diablo's Cantina had their hungry sniffing noses in the air. A treat was presented to the Fox Valley on Saturday February 25th and everyone present could smell it. It was Roster McCabe and the smell was already promising.
The show started with Illinois Native Jaik Willis serenading the packed club. The lone musician woo-ed all by strumming his acoustic v-guitar heartstrings. His ever clever words of sometimes anti-political rants wailing along his hard-felt rhythms created a near gospel-like set for those wise enough to listen completely. The only thing missing was a random outburst of, "Hallelujah" and "Amen." Just kidding because naturally I was already doing that. When he wasn't woo-ing, with that, he caught the rest of the crowd with his fat beat-boxing. In fact, he seemed to rock the beat-box nearly too hard and killed a mic. Whether that's completely accurate or not, it still happened in that magical sequence. So for that, I'm a firm believer and now a bigger Jaik enthusiast. After tugging an acoustic heart-string and rocking a mic to death, Jaik's set was complete.

I was walking around during set-break and I could only hear one deep conscious thought encircling the club... "When is Roster?" Come to find out, many of the attendees have previously experienced the Roster get-down and were there for the exact same reason. Once one gets the taste of a Roster McCabe get-down, another one is too painful to miss.
Currently calling Minneapolis home, Roster holds the perfect mixing of soulful, groovy and pounding rhythms to enhance or fix any mood. One minute they could have the ladies in the crowd twirling only to finish that swirl with a headbang. From electro to reggae with hints of jazz-rock, all diversified sounds they fed were consumed in never-full spoonfuls. Possibly the most rewarding point of this particular show, to me, had to be the room being packed to the brim with the most guys I've ever seen boogying, and some even singing, to Ace of Base's, "I Saw the Sign." To all the ladies, it really was that wonderful. I cannot thank the McCabians enough for that. Even after the crowd stopped begging for more than the already-performed encore, the smiles were endless and the amount of sweat was mutual.

Overall, it was a whimsical treat, as we all seemed to know it would be. For those unable to attend or simply unaware of the delights received from this thing we call "Roster McCabe," my suggestion to you is- be able to attend and become aware quickly. For those in the know and at that show, see you next time, fa-sho.
